Special education involves a lot of terms and abbreviations that may be new to you. We’ve listed some of the most common ones you’ll hear to help you better understand special ed ‘jargon’.
"Please don’t climb the curtains"
A child with special needs, or a child with a disability, is a child first. This is called person-first language and it is important because it is an acknowledgement and a reminder that people are not defined by their disability or limited to their diagnosis.
Ahhh the lazy days of summer. Kids playing nicely under a tree while sipping lemonade innocently exploring together or on a mission to the corner store for a popsicle….What?!That sounds LOVELY but also unrecognizable.
