Exceptional Lives: A free disability information platform for families, caregivers, and professionals
Whether you’ve seen our posts, met us at a conference, listened to a presentation, or maybe received a link to this post from a trusted friend, welcome! We would like to introduce ourselves.
Who we are
We are a team of parents and professionals – and we know how hard it is to find information and support when you care for someone with a developmental disability. It can feel overwhelming and confusing. We’re here to make it easier: we provide free information on how to access services and resources, and explain disability-related processes in language that is easy to follow and understand
We aim to improve the lives of caregivers and their children by meeting them where they are, reducing stress by providing accurate, vetted, and easy-to-understand information, and supporting parents and caregivers with knowledge so they can more effectively advocate for their children.By doing so, we hope to close the information gap between figuring out what information you need, and knowing where you can find it. Whether you’re looking for help with the school system, knowing what government services you’re eligible for, navigating health care or learning about what’s available in your community, we design our resources to provide the information you need.
How do we do it?
By making our information available in plain language, we translate complicated government and legal jargon into language that is easy to read and understand. In keeping it personalized, we replace millions of search results – and dense, one-size-fits-all websites – with information tailored to each family’s situation. And by keeping it action-oriented, we turn the hardest processes into manageable steps parents can take today.Find information you can trust and understand, and the help and support to take the action you need! We’d love to hear from you.
