New Tools to Answer your Questions about Transition to Adulthood

New tools? Tell us more!

You can now find on our website a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the transition to adulthood, as well as a brief overview of the transition process. The FAQs provide information you need to know about a particular topic, all in one place. And the overview covers the nuts and bolts of the transition to adulthood process providing an outline of everything you need to know from the beginning of the process through the end. You no longer need to go through a complete guide to get the information you need.

Can you remind me what transition to adulthood means?

The phrase Transition to Adulthood refers to a young adult leaving school and entering the “real world” outside of that school building. This process of planning for this transition involves working with the school and other providers to think about what life will look like for your child as they become an adult. They might want to continue with school, find a job, or get support to help with their daily needs at home.

Why did you create these new formats?

Last year, we met with parents from all over Louisiana and learned that you wanted smaller bits of information that could answer your questions without having to go through a full Guide each time. Parents like yourselves helped us identify the most common questions that come up when talking about the transition to adulthood. We also learned that some people are hearing about transition for the first time or want a reminder of where they are in the process. That’s why we added an overview; to allow you to step back and see the bigger picture from a simplified point of view.

If I still want to learn everything there is to know about the transition to adulthood, can I do that?

Absolutely! The complete Guide is still available on the Transition page on our website. Thanks to the Louisiana Department of Education for your support of this project!
